WordPress menus can be fully customized, allowing users to add custom links, pages, categories and more. You may feel familiar with such items as pages and categories on a menu, but have you ever put posts on that place? Now we will show you how to easily add a specific post to the WordPress navigation menu.
When and Why to Add
A navigation menu plays an important role in creating a clear look and a navigational structure for your website. It helps your users quickly find key contents on the site. So you can take advantage of this feature to highlight your most popular post and other things that you’re going to promote.
How to Add
Adding a specific post to your WordPress navigation menu is quite simple and easy with just some steps below.
Step 1: In your WordPress admin area, go to Appearance > Menuspage and select a menu to which you’re going to add the post. You can create a new menu if there wasn’t any on your site, or if you’d like to use a brand new menu.
Step 2: After selecting the menu, you’ll see 4 tabs of Pages, Posts, Custom Links and Categories. Hit the Posts tab to expand it.
If the Posts tab is not available there, you’ll need to add it by clicking on the Screen Options button at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 3: Expand the Posts tab and check a specific post you intend to add to your menu bar. Then hit the Add to Menu button. You can add more than one post as you like, providing that there is enough space on the menu. Drag and drop the newly created menu item(s) to adjust their display order.
The post title may be quite long, so you should shorten it by customizing the navigation label to save room for other items on the menu bar.
Step 4: Click Save Menu and visit your live website to see the new look of WordPress navigation menu with a specific post. Easy!
